Tribute to Billie Holiday
Jazz duo, Petra van Nuis and Andy Pratt
Petra van Nuis is a jazz vocalist who has been described by DownBeat Magazine as having “a light, gorgeous, and fairly delicate voice…a gift for melody and plenty of rhythmic confidence.” All About Jazz Magazine calls her music “hauntingly atmospheric and filled with creative substance…poetic, moving and subtly provocative.”
A former dancer and Cincinnati native, Petra came to Chicago in 2004. She performs regularly at Chicago’s prominent venues including the Jazz Showcase, the Green Mill, Winter’s Jazz Club, Fitzgerald’s Nightclub and Andy’s Jazz Club. Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs has presented Petra’s groups at the Chicago Cultural Center and Chicago Summer Dance. The Jazz Institute of Chicago has featured Petra’s Recession Seven band (an authentic Chicago-style jazz collective) at the Chicago Jazz Festival and Jazz City.
Petra is excited to return to the Presbyterian Church of Barrington for a tribute to one of her favorite singers, Billie Holiday. Petra will be accompanied by outstanding guitarist/singer/songwriter Andy Pratt. Petra and Andy have a weekly residency playing the Champagne Jazz Brunch at Hemmingway’s Bistro in Oak Park. Together they will serenade with some of Billie Holiday’s signature songs.

Silver Linings
Bluegrass duo, Brandi Berry and Stephanie Hunt
Baroque violinist and Bluegrass fiddler Brandi Berry Benson’s “four-string acrobatics” and “indispensable skill” (TimeOut Chicago) have been praised as “bright”, “lively”, “pleasing” (Hyde Park Herald) “alert [and] outstanding” (Chicago Classical Review). Silver Linings is her first full album of all original music, which was conceived during the global pandemic lockdown. Each composition points out a specific silver lining she embraced these past several years. Joined by Stephanie Hunt on cello, this album includes a mix of Baroque and Bluegrass music in the form of suites, preludes, new fiddle tunes, and a Chickasaw suite based on the melodies of the Chickasaw Nation of which Brandi is a member.
