Deacon Article by Linda Neton
My family and I moved to Barrington from Ohio 34 years ago. Without extended family and no knowledge of the area, it was so hard to become part of the community. A former member of this church, who has since moved to California, lived a few doors away. She knocked on my door and invited me to church. It was such a kind gesture and helped me to find the spiritual home that I have been part of all these years. I had tried churches in the village but there was a sentiment of family here that I needed and had not experienced elsewhere.
Most of my time has been focused on the activities of the women. I have found that the ladies of this church are very unique. They are warm, inclusive and genuinely care about each other as no others do. We all work together as a team and are always there in a pinch to help each other. I have spent the last 34 years as one of the women’s group leaders, helped to start the shawl ministry and have worked, along side our women, on many mission and fellowship activities for our church and for others in our area.
During this time I also have served on the Board of Deacons twice. While I know that serving a specific parish is a wonderful caring ministry, I feel that Jesus would want any of us to care for all the members of our church community. It is so important to let them know that we are here for them and can be counted on in times of struggle and will also share in moments of joy. Jesus cares for all his flock, keeping them safe, and holds them close to his heart.
Blessings to all,
Linda Neton
