My husband, Stan, and I have been members of PCB since 2009.  One of the things that attracted us to this church was the music program.  It is truly one of the finest in the area.  As musicians ourselves, we have played in many other churches through the years, and find that poor quality of music, poorly performed music, or even no music detracts from the worship service.  We have none of these problems at PCB.  In addition, Kirsten Hedegaard, Director of Music, Rich Leasure, organist, and Pastor Joe all work carefully together to coordinate the hymns, the anthem and any other service music with the scripture readings and the message(sermon).

     Another important function of our music department is community outreach/service.  The church sponsors “Music on the Hill”, a concert series of all different types of music.  This year we are presenting our parlor concerts, held in the church parlor.  It is true chamber music, in an intimate setting so that the audience can be up close to the musicians.  Other years the concerts have been in the sanctuary or fellowship hall.  Music on the Hill is open to the public.

     Any description of our church’s music must also include our fine Sanctuary Choir.  Directed by Kirsten Hedegaard, the choir sings at the 10:00 service on most Sundays.  These dedicated and talented singers meet on Thursday nights for practice and again for a warm-up rehearsal before the church service.  This spring the choir will present a performance of Mozart’s Requiemduring the 10:00 service on March 18.  

     PCB is also  very fortunate to have a handbell choir.   Many churches do not have handbells due to the cost of purchasing them, for a set of handbells is not inexpensive.  Our talented ringers wear gloves to protect the finish of the beautiful bells.  They also practice weekly and perform at various times during the church year, directed by Kirsten Hedegaard.  Kirsten also works with the youth of the church in various educational and performance situations.  A recent example of this was the beautiful solos sung by our children as part of the adult choir anthem. 

     When we are counting our blessings and thanking God for them, we should include our wonderful music people who add so much to the worship experience and service of the church.
