This ministry is an extension of the one created in 1998 by Victoria Cole-Gallo and Janet Bristow, graduates of the Women’s Leadership Institute of the Hartford Seminary. Our own Linda Neton was inspired to bring this caring ministry home to PCB in 2008. She has nurtured our group of fiber artists (knitting and crocheting) to create shawls and lap robes in various patterns and colors.
In 2013 we added a new item to our craft basket : Prayer Cloths. A Prayer Cloth is a small swatch measuring approximately 4” X 4”. They are small as they were designed to be carried in your pocket as a prayerful reminder of the Holy Spirit working through us. Recipients can hold one in times of anxiety, fear, gratitude, or devotion.
No two of our creations are identical. We offer our comfort, faith and love to those who use them. Many prayers are entwined within each stitch. Our creations receive an additional blessing annually by our ministers during worship. We have given many shawls and cloths to recipients in need within our church and as far away as Norway and the Philippines.
We are also happy to teach people how to knit/crochet. You will start by learning to make Prayer Cloths or a beautiful scarf of your very own. We meet monthly, alternating between morning and evening sessions. For more details, please contact the church office and ask to speak with the Prayer Shawl Ministry Coordinator.
