My name is Caryl Bondelli and I am the Deacon for Parish 14 and part of Parish 15. I live in Algonquin and have been a member of this church for about 20 years, after transferring my membership from Community Presbyterian Church in Mt. Prospect. This is my second 3-year term as a Deacon. My responsibility is extended communion. Extended communion is available to any member who is unable to attend Sunday services and can be arranged through their deacon. A pastor may or may not go with the deacon, depending on the wishes of the recipient. It can take place in the member’s home, hospital room or rehab facility.
Other shared Deacon duties include weekly flower delivery to those on our care list, attendance at our monthly meetings where we share the joys and concerns of our parish members, serving on a Hospitality Team for coffee hour, calling on the phone or in person those in our parishes who we feel may need our help, and sending cards or notes to let them know we care. Plants are delivered at Easter and Christmas to those on our special care list.
It is rewarding experience to be a Deacon, helping the pastors serve and care for those in our parishes. If you are asked to be a Deacon, please prayerfully consider it and answer the call.
Peace and love,
