Sunday Morning Programs

Infant to Age 3 - Nursery/Toddler Room
8:45am—12:00p.m.
Our Nursery/Toddler Room is staffed by our Nursery Supervisor, Sandy Kane, as well as loving adult and teen volunteers. The warm, inviting environment provides a wonderful place for the youngest of our congregation. Parents are strongly encouraged to begin the spiritual guidance of their children by signing up on the charts located in the room. However, all adults are welcome to participate in this invigorating and rewarding ministry. Interested? Contact Melissa Armstrong-Hansche.

Ages 4 to 5 - Rainbow Room
9:00a.m.—10:15a.m.
Our Rainbow Room is filled with exciting learning centers and play areas. Design to help children learn through a variety of pathways, the Bible-based curriculum uses drama, art, puppetry (a mouse named Whiskers “visits” every week) and music to begin teaching the children about God’s love and plan for them. A weekly parent handout tells you what we did in class and provides you with questions and activities to help you reinforce your child’s Bible lesson at home. Staffed by parent volunteers, the lessons are well laid out and easy to follow. Teacher training occurs throughout the year. Contact Jennifer Hansen to sign up to teach.

Kindergarten to Grade 4 - Workshop Rotation Rooms
9:20a.m.—10:15a.m.
This model of church school, which originated here, has spread throughout the nation, across denominations and is making its way oversees. This is a multiple-intelligence approach to Sunday School. The children focus for three to four weeks on a single Bible story. There are a number of lab-style workshops – computer, film, drama, art, etc.- and students rotate each week from workshop to workshop. Monthly parent handouts help you understand what is taught and provide questions and activities to complete at home to reinforce your child’s spiritual growth.

As a teacher you learn one lesson plan of the dynamic PowerXpress curriculum and teach within your interest/strength. Teacher training occurs several weeks before your assigned rotation. Contact Pam Anderson to sign up to teach in one of our eight workshop mediums.

The children will begin the hour by attending church and exiting after the Moment With Young Disciples. They will gather in Fellowship Hall where the story and theme will be taught and then will be dismissed to their scheduled workshop downstairs. These workshops are located in the wing of the church at the bottom of the Narthex stairway. Check the bulletin schedule or the Workshop bulletin board located just outside Fellowship Hall to ascertain which workshop your child is attending.

Learning to Worship
9:15a.m. -10:00a.m.
FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH—Age 5/K
This class is designed for all children age 5—K to teach essential worship skills.  While the older children remain in worship to celebrate communion, these children meet in Fellowship Hall to play games, learn hymns and have a great time learning to worship God.

Grades 5 to 6 - Temple Room
9:20a.m.10:15 a.m.
I Know My Bible
This curriculum is designed to help these children learn the contents of the Bible. It contains both large group, leader directed style activities to teach Bible facts and stories. It uses small group, learner-directed style activities that study the Bible section in more depth. Through a variety of activity choices, (art, drama, puppetry, etc.) the children put the Bible content in their own words Each child receives a study guide that they will complete each week and will bring home in May.

Kindergarten to Grade 6 - Computer Lab
10:15 a.m.—11:00a.m.
Using newly developed Christian Education software, and some “oldies but goodies”, the children will interact with age appropriate programs designed to enhance their Christian education. “Galilee Flyer”, a program that focuses on the Lord’s Prayer, The Beatitudes and parable will make its debut in October. Contact Melissa Hansche, 847-381-0975, if you are interested in facilitating this program.

7th & 8th Grade Class - 7th/8th Grade Room
10:10a.m.—11:00a.m.
Our youth meet in the 7th & 8th grade room to explore scripture, worship and their faith using the “Seasons of the Spirit” curriculum.  This lectionary based curriculum will help our youth participate in worship more meaningfully.

Sr. High (Grades 9 - 12) - Youth Lounge
10:10a.m.—11:00a.m.
Grades 9-12
Class is held in the Youth Room every Sunday. You are invited to join your friends to explore the Bible through discussion, art, music, games, and to respond to what you've learned from the exploration.  We will be using a new curriculum - Seasons of the Spirit.

Other Youth Activities

Wednesday Night Live  - Kindergarten to Grade 8
5:00p.m.-8:00p.m.
Wednesday Night Live is a mid-week fellowship program for children and youth from grades Kindergarten through  8th.  Games and music are offered to forge friendships and to create a welcoming atmosphere.  Bible lessons are taught to help children and youth in their everyday Christian lives.  Dinner is served to promote hospitality and closeness across all ages.  We believe this is an important program for your child or youth to attend.  Friends are always welcome!

K-4                  Dove Club       Music, Games, Art, Lessons and Dewey Dove!  We have great things planned—a “trip” to Antarctica starts off the year, where we will meet up with famous scientist – Dr. Quirky.

5th/6th                        DIVE      Dive into faith through small groups discussions about family, friends and school.  We use games and music, too.  We, also, are going to Antarctica where we will learn the difference between good anger and bad anger.

7th/8th                        We’re in the process of developing our name and logo for our t-shirts.  Also, we will be choosing and making an animal for Heifer Project.  We’ll have small group discussions, as well as play games and listen to music as we explore the ways our faith impacts our lives.  We begin this year by focusing our study on what it means to be a “Real World Christian”.

The scope of the program offered is wide. Many adults with many spiritual gifts are needed to make this program successful. If you feel that you do not want to work with your child/youth age group, we have many other slots to be filled. We want to continue to offer this wonderful and rewarding program to our children and youth, but we need your help. Please plan to sign up when registering your child.

Sr. High (Grades 9-12)
Sunday—3:00p.m.—6:00p.m.
During this part of the program, we examine the influence pop culture has on the youth, through movies, music and other media.  This program includes games, as well (Dodge ball and Sardines are favorites).  We also use this time to complete some mission projects, such as cooking for the church mission called “Food Served With Love”.  These meals are prepared and then delivered to church members in special need of this type of support.  See the website calendar for meeting dates.

Saturday   1:00p.m.—3:00p.m.
We will also offer more extensive mission project outreaches throughout the year.  This will include for projects for Home of the Sparrow, a local shelter for women and children.  We work at the house in Crystal Lake at least twice this  year doing cleaning and yard work and interacting with the children. In the winter, we will spend a Sunday at their resale shop in Palatine, sorting and cleaning their store.

We will be looking for Habitat for Humanity involvement this year and will seek other community-based mission outreach programs.

WE ALSO HAVE LOCK-INS, RETREATS, PAINTBALL, WHIRLYBALL, ETC. CHECK THE CALENDAR!
