Advent and Christmas Schedule
The
season of Advent began on November 27. During this time, we prepare
for the coming of Christ as we light candles symbolizing Hope,
Peace, Joy and Love.
Sunday, December 4
: The Deacons invite you to attend the
Advent Dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.
The Sunday morning Adult Education programs are designed to help you have a better appreciation and understanding of the music of Christmas.
Sunday, December 11,
10:15 AM – 11:15 AM in the Library/Parlor:
Pathways to the Holy: Exploring Congregational
Singing. Presented by Dr. Deborah Kapp of McCormick
Theological Seminary.
Dr. Kapp has been on the faculty at McCormick Theological Seminary since 1995. In 1990, she was Moderator for the Chicago Presbytery. She obtained her Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary and her PhD from Loyola University. Her area of interest focus on the sociology of religion as well as research in the practice of worship with special study of congregational song.
Sunday, December 18, 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM in the Library/Parlor: Pathways to the Holy: Exploring Christmas Carols. Presented by Dr. Deborah Kapp of McCormick Theological Seminary.
Saturday, December 24: Christmas Eve Services:
5:00 p.m.: Family Service - A Participatory Worship Service
for Children.
7:00 and 9:00 p.m. : An adaptation of the festival of nine
lessons and carols, first used in the Truro Cathedral, England, and
adapted in 1918 for the King’s College Chapel, Cambridge. Our vocal
and bell choirs will lead the carols.
11:00 p.m.: Traditional Candlelight service with sermon,
carols and communion. We light the Christ candle as we proclaim
Christ as the Light of the World. Each person then receives the
Light of Christ as we sing Silent Night.
Sunday, December 25: Christmas Day, one service at 10:00 a.m.
Sunday, January 1, 2006: New Year’s Day, one service at 10:00 a.m. with communion.

Advent
Dinner

Sunday, December 4, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.
We’ll begin with punch and Christmas carols, followed by a “pot luck” dinner and ornament exchange. You may sign up to attend the Advent Dinner in Fellowship Hall after services. The cost for the evening will be $6.00 per adult and $3.00 for children 3-12. Children under 3 are free. The maximum any family will pay is $20. The main dish and beverages will be provided. Each family attending the dinner is asked to bring a dish to pass in a disposable container to serve 8.
If your last name begins with A-L, please
bring a salad.
If your last name begins with M-Z, please bring a side dish, hot and
ready to serve.
Please bring one ornament per family for an ornament exchange. The program will be provided by the Barrington Children’s Choir. If you have any questions about this event, you may contact Nancy Bohren.
